Majirani who was a very prominent musician under GrandPa Records a couple of years back, especially after he released his hit song ‘Hivyo Ndo Kunaendanga’ is currently living below a dollar crashing at a friend’s grass-thatched house.
The singer had one of the most emotional, interesting and powerful come up stories you’ve ever cared to listen, having spent a year in prison.
The musician opened up to Word Is about being sexually harassed during his incarceration said that he wouldn’t wish prison life for anyone since it’s a traumatizing experience.
“It is not a good experience. You are eaten by lice and given that they are considered ‘wanyama ya serikali [government’s animals]’ you are not allowed to kill them. If you were found killing them it’s considered a crime,” Majirani told Word Is.
“Prison taught me that you need to respect people. Right now even if you wrong me, I just walk [away] because I would not want to go back there. Freedom is more important than all the money [in the world],” the musician who was sent to prison by his father who wanted to knock some sense into him after he dropped out of school said.
Majirani said one time he was attacked by prisoners who wanted to sodomize him.
“I am thankful to God [the attack failed]. That was the hardest moment of my life in prison.”
Away from the prison life, Majirani has been away from the mainstream radar even after he released a couple of songs ever since he parted ways with his former record label, GrandPa Records which he still considers it to be one of the best record labels in the country.

Majirani who is from Eldoret at one moment in time back in 2014 won Ksh. 1 million after beating almost 300 other artistes at Maasai Mara Mic Battle Talent Search.
“I used the money to facilitate the production of my music. I was able to comfortably produce my audios and videos at Grandpa Records. I invested the rest of the money in a prime plot in Eldoret,” Majirani said in an interview on how he spent the money.
Octopizzo: we need to show each other love and less social media likes
Currently, the musician who has released his recent song dubbed ‘Tutaongea’ is currently in between a hard place and a rock after he was evicted away from his house for the failure of paying house rent and now has resorted to staying in a grass-thatched house that a friend has allowed him to crash on.
“… good morning guys, I am recording this video from my new home, as you can see, this is a grass thatched house. This is where I have been spending my last three nights,” Majirani says in a short clip he shared on social media, “…na nataka kushukuru sana manze, Mr Smarty kunipatia hii place at least nikuwe nalala, thanks sana manze, God atakubless sana.”
