Legendary singer Madonna has been sued by two fans who decried that she wasted their time as they waited for too long for her to get on stage to perform.
The 65-year-old musician was sued over her 13th December show at Barclays Center which was part of her Celebration tour.
In a lawsuit filed on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, in Brooklyn federal court, the plaintiffs Michael Fellows and Jonathan Hadden claim that Madonna made them arrive late to work as her show extended beyond the expected time that it was meant to last.
According to the lawsuit, the show was advertised to start at 8:30 pm, but Madonna did not take the stage until after 10:30 pm.
The plaintiffs argued that they got stranded in the middle of the night by the time they left Madonna’s show after 1 am.
The two said they were confronted with limited public transportation, limited ride-sharing, and increased public and private transportation costs.
They also argued that Madonna’s late finish on the weeknight show also affected their ability to take care of their family responsibilities the next day.
The plaintiffs accuse Madonna, Barclays Center, and tour promoter Live Nation of unconscionable, unfair, and/or deceptive trade practices for the delayed start time, which the pair argues constitutes a breach of contract and a wanton exercise in false advertising.
The suit is seeking class action status for attenders of other Celebration shows which started late, including Madonna’s next two concerts in New York on 14 and 16 December.
Madonna has faced similar lawsuits for late arrivals.
In 2019, the pop star was sued by a fan in Florida who argued that her lateness on her Madame X tour was a breach of contract.
In 2020, Madonna was sued again for late arrival by two New York concertgoers against
However, both the 2019 and 2020 lawsuits were later voluntarily dismissed.
