Nyandarua landlord, Michael Munene tells tenants to stop paying rent for two months due to Coronavirus

One landlord called Michael Munene has since got the attention of all Kenyans and everyone else globally by his act of kindness that has somewhat made him famous during this trying times of Coronavirus, COVID-19.

Michael Munene who is a landlord owning a couple of properties in Nyandarua has asked his tenants to stop paying rent in his premises.

Michael Munene has asked his tenants not to pay their rent for two months and he has already given them notice to stress the same.

Michael Munene has a one-story building with 28 rooms with rent being KSh. 3,000 in Nyandarua.

Speaking with Citizen TV live on air on Saturday, 21, 2020, Munene said that he chose to do this because of the pandemic Coronavirus, COVID-19 that has since made almost everybody stay indoors guaranteeing themselves with most Kenyan businesses not going forward due to the quarantine.

“… wakati janga ilikuja[Coronavirus, COVID-19] unaona uchumi imeenda chini sana,” Michael Munene said speaking with Lulu Hassan and her husband, Rashid Abdalla live on studio, “unaona hata kupata chakula, inakuanga ngumu, sasa unaona wanateseka kwasababu wanakuanga very loyal na hawachelewi kulipa rent.”

“… hata kama hawajawahi kushindwa kulipa rent, unaona wanaenda kukopesha pesa ili walipe rent.”

“… hata tukienda tuone mambo imeharibika hata zaidi, nita assess situation na ninaweza waongezea na hakuna deni hapo, tumeandikiana na wao, nimewapatia barua, legal agreement, nimeweka notice hapo …”

“… Due to the impact on socioeconomic caused by Coronavirus pandemic, you will not pay two months’ rent.”

What this means is that Michael Munene who iterated that he has a good rapport with his tenants will not collect Ksh. 168,000 that he would have normally collected in two months.

For two months, Munene won’t collect a dime from any of his tenants who are leasing in his residential property in Kinangop, Nyandarua County.
