Retired president Kikwete asks musicians to invite him to their gigs, says he feels like a prisoner in his compound

The fourth president of the United Republic of Tanzania Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete has called on Bongo Fleva artistes not to be afraid to invite him to attend their shows – insisting that he is just like any other human being who needs to have fun and enjoy himself.

Kikwete, who was succeeded by the late John Magufuli, has been appearing at public events hosted by Bongo musicians.

Last year during the launch of the Dedication album by the artist Ommy Dimpoz, president Kikwete was a distinguished guest and came out to grace the album launch event.

Recently, during Marioo’s show where he launched his new album, Kikwete also appeared and made a request to artists not to be afraid of him but to continue giving him invitations to attend their shows.

(I want to thank you for the gifts you give me; I love them. I say this because for some of us our lives have been a little difficult. You live in a house that is surrounded by a big side wall and then there is another in the middle and another surrounding the house you live in.

(So, whenever I get invitations like this, I’m really happy because it’s a rare opportunity for me to go out at night, be myself, relax and have a good time. I mean it’s a good night of entertainment and I like good music so I don’t mind more invitations to because I will attend on purpose),” Kikwete told the audience.
