Khaligraph Jones’s ascension to the top of the rap elite in not only Kenya but the entire African continent hasn’t been that easy at all.

It has some ups and downs but before he made it big time, he used to suffer lots of Ls from hip hop and rap fans who misunderstood him at the moment because he wasn’t that known in the music industry then.

Now already an accomplished, award-winning, sought-after, prolific, versatile rapper whose named commands respect in the hip hop realm across the globe, Khaligraph Jones took some time off his busy schedule to reflect and recall how far he’s come in the cutthroat music industry, especially the hip hop and rap scene.

Khaligraph Jones, the father of three recalled how he was booed off the stage on his performing gig at St. Paul’s University in Limuru years back in 2012.

He disclosed that he was later on chased off the stage by students making him almost quit music in the first place, questioning his decision of doing music in the first place.

Back in 2012, Khaligraph Jones wasn’t that much known as he is known today.

“The year was 2012, St Paul’s University Limuru where I was Booed and later Chased off the stage like a Burukenge, I almost Quit music Bana, The OG was not respected because the OG was not the OG at that point,” he shared on social media on October 15, 2021.

Gospel sensational singer Hopekid who was apparently in the same gig in Limuru recalled how cold the students were on that fateful day that Khaligraph Jones will never ever forget in the first place.

“I WAS THERE MY G, a night to remember and the way it was soo cold, students became cold too,” Hopekid chimed in on social media in the comment section of Khaligraph Jones’ post.

He didn’t relent and/or give in though, he consoled himself and continued doing music which inevitably would eventually change his life as he would know it. Years later he blew up and impressed not only Kenya as a country but the entire African continent.

He’s eternally grateful that he didn’t give up on hip hop and rap music.

At the moment, Khaligraph Jones is regarded as among the top 5 rappers in Africa generally.

The ‘M-Besha’ hitmaker has since surpassed the plateau he had set for himself as a rapper in Kenya and East Africa.

Right now when you think about Khaligraph Jones, you best be thinking about comparing him with international, regionally upper echelon rappers, not local rappers in the country and across East Africa because he’s proved without any reasonable doubt that he’s way on a different league than your average, nominal Kenyan whack rappers.

Khaligraph Jones has won the AFRIMA, AFRIMMA, Soundcity MVP Awards as the best rapper in Africa, no other rapper/s from East and Central rappers have won the three coveted Africa awards. That should tell you something about how far Khaligraph Jones is as compared to other rappers in the East African region thus far.
