A Kenyan working in Qatar is winning hearts at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The Kenyan-born, 23-year-old Abubakr Abbass now famously known as Metro Man has achieved viral worldwide attention on social media and has become a popular cult favorite and a celebrity.
Abubakr Abbass the Metro Man is from Mombasa Kenya.
Metro Man as they call him directs the hundreds of fans visiting the old market, known as Souq Waqif, to the neighboring metro station while seated in a tennis umpire chair and sporting a huge foam finger.
‘Metro, this way.’ he offers helpful counsel and it has become a catchphrase to say, “Metro? This way.” in Qatar.
Abbass frequently engages in back-and-forth conversations with visitors to the popular Souq Waqif, sparking scenes that resemble choreographed dances.
One enthralled admirer said, “He’s really, really enjoying his job.”
Metro Man was invited inside the stadium during the England versus United States of America World Cup match to engage with football fans present at the now famous Al Bayt Stadium.

He will also be on a monthly salary of USD 1,100 as at Metro company which hired him.
