The government had refused to invite the opposition for talks following a spell of street demonstrations against Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Cord has called for the disbandment of the electoral body while the government had until today insisted on using the right procedures to push IEBC out of office.

The government had initially agreed to meet Cord but then again it cancelled the offer as it could not stomach Cord’s demands and preconditions.

Raila and his brigade decided to hold a parallel rally at Uhuru Park on Madaraka amid protests from the ruling Jubilee coalition.

Interior CS threaten to arrest Cord principals if they go on and hold the rally at Uhuru Park but Raila wasn’t cowed by his threats.

Noticing arresting Cord brigade could plunge the country into another bloody violence, the State House has this afternoon invited Cord for urgent talks.

Raila who was away in Narok County for funeral had to cut short his visit and fly back to the capital for the talk.

The Cord leader apologized to mourners and explained he had received an urgent telephone call from State House at 2pm urging him to show up for an urgent meeting with the President.

The agenda of the meeting has not been communicated by its expected IEBC will top discussion at State House.
