Rapper Paul Julius Nunda, aka JuaCali, recently took to Twitter to share a fun chat with his fans. The Genge music legend, known for his iconic hits, used the opportunity to encourage his followers to “get out and enjoy” the beautiful day.
One fan, Remmy, noticed the shiny exterior of the car and asked a rather absurd question: “Is the Sun out there the bright one or is it you who is burning?” Jua Cali responded with a humorous reply, “I’m the one who’s on fire.”
The conversation then turned to the origin of his stage name, “Jua Cali.”
A curious fan asked, “How did you come up with ‘Jua Cali’?”
The rapper revealed that his name is short for “Jua California,” which is a nod to his hometown neighborhood in Nairobi.
California is a neighborhood where Jua Cali grew up, and he has always been proud of his roots.
In 2000, he co-founded Calif Records with music producer Clemo, which became a prominent music label in East Africa.
The label was also named after California, reflecting Jua Cali’s strong connection to his community.
This latest tidbit from Jua Cali adds another layer to the story of how he became known as one of Kenya’s most beloved gang music artists.
