Jason Derulo is calling on fellow musicians to help stamp out the recent trend of fans throwing items, like phones, at them while they’re performing.

The RnB crooner addressed the vice while promoting his new book ‘Sing Your Name Out Loud: 15 Rules for Living Your Dream’ at a Barnes & Noble bookstore in New York City.

Derulo expressed his frustration with the trend of fans throwing objects at artistes.

The ‘Talk Dirty’ hit maker stressed that fans put a performer in danger by hurling objects at them while making reference to an incident that happened to him.

“You don’t get anything from that. All you do is disrespect the artiste. I’ve had it happen to be before as well,” Derulo told TMZ when asked about recent instances.

The 33-year-old singer noted that the increase in such instances started with fans hoping their favorite artists would use the device to snap a photo.

“It’s like a real thing. People are throwing their phones before demonstrating how he would dodge a flying device. ‘It’s like the Matrix; you’ve got to dodge these phones. It’s getting dangerous out here,” he said.

Derulo did offer one example of a more safer way for fans to get a photo from their favorite stars.

“If the artist comes to you really close, you can try to pass the phone; I get that,’ he said. ‘But launching your joint on to the stage is crazy.”

Initially, a number of performers actually did start taking photos, and ultimately more and more phones were being tossed their way, along with a mix of other potentially dangerous objects.

Derulo noted that musicians can be part of the solution by not engaging with fans who throw items at them while on stage.
