Langata Member of Parliament (MP) – elect Phelix ‘Jalang’o ‘ Odiwuor is sharpening his shooting skills ahead of being handed a gun and extra security by the government.
Jalang’o shared photos of himself in a shooting range where he was undergoing training on shooting and handling a firearm.
“Training makes perfect. Welcome to Langata indoor shooting range,” Jalang’o captioned a photo of himself at the shooting range.
As an MP, Jalang’o will be given armed bodyguards by the State, and upon assessment and confirmation that he’s in a position to properly handle a firearm, he will be certified and licensed to have a personal gun.
Even though MPs are licensed gun holders, they are not allowed to walk into the Parliament chambers with their weapons and are also expected to to adhere to rules of owning a firearm.
Circumstances under which MPs can use their licenced firearms are clearly defined. Even so, there have been several reports of lawmakers misusing their guns as witnessed by the case of Embakasi East MP Babu Owino who shot DJ Evolve in a club rendering him paralysed.
