COTU Secretary-General Francis Atwoli opened up about a lot of stuff in his recent interview at KBC(Kenya Broadcasting Corporation) Channel 1 a few hours ago, among the many things he touched on, he opened up about how he sees Deputy President becoming President of Kenya and how they are alike.
Francis Atwoli agreed that DP Ruto is a hard-working person, an intelligent, sharp-witted politician like no other, and a mass mover who can without any reasonable doubt become the next President of Kenya, not in 2022 though, but in the future.
Atwoli went further to clarify that he doesn’t have any problems with the DP stressing the fact that they only differ on ideologies and nothing else.
The COTU boss who always knows what will happen in politics in the future doesn’t know and/or cannot predict, at least at the moment, who will succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta as the next President saying that what’s important as we head to the general elections is the unity of Kenyans.
“The only problem we had was when they came to the presidency, Dp Ruto called us in as COTU, they had good plans for the NSSF and I was on their board when we looked at his plans, we said we could lose billions and billions of workers’ money, so I said no, ”Atwoli opened up.
Atwoli disclosed that the disagreement led to his removal from the board. “They started to micromanage the NSSF, they destroyed the NHIF, they illegally distributed the land of the Kenyatta National Hospital, we should improve the institutions, not destroy them.”
Atwoli who believes that once the politics is fixed the economy will prosper says that DP Ruto believes that it’s either him or nobody else reiterating he predicted that he will never be President before he fell out with President Kenyatta.
“DP Ruto thinks it’s him or nobody else, I said he would never be president long before he took on his boss. When you want something by force, you end up not getting it, ” he said.
The COTU boss is convinced that Kenya deserves a leader who will resuscitate the economy, unite Kenyans together to become one, bring together even those who opposed him reiterating peace in the country is what’s the ultimate goal is.
He went further to say something on the BBI(Building Bridges Initiative) pointing out that the initiative was not about creating more positions in the government but about ending once and for all the polarization during and after elections as well as increasing the much-needed resources in every County in the country.

Atwoli also touched on his retirement plans disclosing that he will retire as soon as his term ends stating that he already has plans of how he intends to make himself busy after being a member of more than 50 years of service.
“I’m retiring after this term, I’m going to retire to the village and lead a quiet life, probably teaching catechism to young people. I have trained people who can now take over COTU and move on to the next phase,” he said.
