International Criminal Court (ICC) Hands DP Ruto Another Big Blow!

1 min read

Attempts to have the International Criminal Court (ICC) staff, prosecutor Fatou Bensouda and witnesses probed and prosecuted over Kenyan cases by DP Ruto have failed.

Through his lawyer, Karim Khan, DP Ruto had accused the ICC staff of misconduct including bribing witnesses and having sex with them.

The ICC has rejected DP Ruto’s application on grounds that they were made late after Ruto and Sang had been acquitted by the court.

DP Ruto and Sang’s cases of crimes against humanity ended in April 5, 2016 due to lack of evidence.

While making the decision, three judges, Chile Eboe-Osuji, Olga Herrera Carbucchia and Robert Fremr, declared Ruto’s application as ‘moot’.

Further,“The chamber recalls the wisdom of the maxim that litigation must come to a conclusion at some point. That point was when the period of appeal elapsed without an appeal,” they said.
