The mention of the words HIV/AIDS is not music to anyone who understand the weight those words carry.
A Kenyan on twitter who goes by an alias as Hoonigan his handle @MuchiriH shared in a very long thread of tweets very shocking statistics that he unearthed in his data visualization.
“Guys, so I was doing some data visualization and I have to tell you HIV/AIDS is real. I sample one county (name withheld) and then choose a Health Centre. I want to show you how HIV/AIDS So I was doing this sample called PNS’ ‘Partner Notification Services’ this is where you test people for HIV and if positive talk to the person and ask him or her whether they have other sexual partners. (Note I did not use wife, husband or girlfriend)” He tweeted.
He continued;
“So I got This Positive Guy. Apparently he had a wife so he agreed to disclose to the wife and after a week, they came back to the Health Center. Testing was done and she was positive. So we have 2 positive. Remember the two .”
‘So the Guy, we shall call him Guy A. after having a talk for a month with the HIV testing counselor. He disclosed that he has had 7 sexual partners for a period of six months. He also promised to bring them for testing. After a period of time they all tested Positive.”
He then dropped the real numbers;
“So now in a month we have 8 positives…as attached rough drawing shows. Amongst the seven ladies 4 ladies have each two sexual partner A&B one has a husband the other works in a pub and not disclose. so we might get at least 16 HIV+ from one Guy X.
Now that we already have 16 as the new HIV positives. If we get to find the 9 sexual partners form the seven ladies and they gives us at least two weeks shall have 25. The bar lady might even add numbers..Remember the wife of the guy X might be having a partner out there.”
And just to back up his story he shared the following figures;
“So guy A gave us a record of 16 new positives at the end we might even get 30 plus. HIV is real use a condom or abstains. Guys I’ll go ahead and show you some data from HISKENYA. I’ll sample a few counties.”
1. Kiambu county 2017 6,367 new positives
2. Meru county 2,931 new Hiv positives
3. Homa bay things are bad 12,737 new positives
4. Kisumu county 14,476 new positives
5. Nairobi peoples its bad real bad. Its time y’all use condoms bana 28,152 new HIV positives
6. Mombasa county 6,552 new HIV positives.”
He then goes ahead to plead with Kenyans to be responsible;
“So what I was trying to tell you guys is that protection is major. Those numbers are from the tested guys. There is a bunch of us that never get tested. So guys take care.”
Many Kenyans on Twitter were shocked and petrified by this and many did not hold back their worry and sorrow of how we are doomed with this kind of revelation.
The thread was retweeted by hundreds and likes and shared on various WhatsApp platforms sending chills down the spines of many.
And I also ask; guys! This is depressing can we take charge of our lives? Are we doomed? Is there something we can do about it?
