What started as a rumor has now been confirmed to be true. Celebrated footballer McDonald Mariga Wanyama is seeking Jubilee party ticket to vie for Kibra constituency seat which fell empty following the death of Ken Okoth.
Mariga, who has been without a club for a while, has officially retired from football to join active politics. The former Inter Milan midfielder has today September 2nd made his way to Jubilee party headquarters in Nairobi to participate in the party’s nomination exercise for it’s candidate in the Kibra by-election.
Mariga was flanked by his supporters who were carrying placards bearing his number 17 jersey while others were wearing red t-shirts emblazoned with the footballer’s name.
Mariga is expected to square it out with six other candidates are expected to undergo a similar vetting process before one is picked to represent Jubilee party in Kibra by-election.
