Award-winning rapper and philanthropist Femi One stepped beyond the prison walls and into the hearts of the men at Kiambu Men’s Prison during the Kiambu Edition of her One For One Foundation’s Men’s Mental Health Month campaign—a visit marked by empathy, vulnerability, and renewed hope.

Hosted within the correctional facility, the event gathered inmates, prison officers, and invited guests for an afternoon rooted in mental health awareness, dignity, and brotherhood. In a space often defined by silence and survival, the atmosphere shifted as honest conversations took center stage.

Femi One spent time engaging directly with the inmates, listening to their stories, encouraging them to speak openly about their struggles, and reminding them that their lives still carry meaning, purpose, and the possibility of healing—even behind bars.

“It was an emotional and powerful experience,” Femi One shared. “So many men are carrying heavy burdens quietly. This month is about reminding them that their pain is valid, their healing is important, and that they are not invisible. As a society, we see them.”

One of the most moving moments of the day was the crowning of Mr. Kiambu, a celebration that allowed inmates to express themselves beyond their sentences. Through talent, leadership, and confidence, participants reclaimed a sense of identity and self-worth. Femi One, who had the honor of crowning the winner, spoke passionately about the importance of self-expression, redemption, and second chances, emphasizing that a person’s past should not define their future.

The visit also included a heartfelt address by Femi One to both inmates and guests, where she highlighted the urgent need for mental wellness support among men—particularly those in marginalized and overlooked spaces. She spoke about the power of community, compassion, and open dialogue in dismantling the stigma that often prevents men from seeking help.

More than a visit, the experience served as a reminder that healing begins with being seen and heard. For many of the inmates, the presence of someone willing to listen without judgment offered a rare moment of connection and hope.

The Kiambu Men’s Prison visit forms part of the One For One Foundation’s ongoing mission to create safe spaces and platforms for underrepresented communities—especially youth and men in neglected environments—ensuring that their voices matter, their stories are honored, and their journeys toward healing are supported.
