Comedian Eric Omondi was released from police custody on Monday evening after being detained for several hours following his arrest delivering CVs to the State House.
It was his third arrest in two months. He was previously arrested twice in connection with protests against the cost of living.
Monday’s arrest came after the comedian was caught pulling a ‘cart’ he claimed contained thousands of CVs from young job seekers.
He was arrested on Kenyatta Avenue when he was going to deliver the documents to the State House, an area restricted to the official residence of the president.
“I hear very well, I’m free” he said after leaving the Central Police Station.
In a video posted by content producer Vincent Mboya, Omondi was seen being followed by businessman Gor Semelang’o to the Kenya National Cinema a few meters away.
He said that he must send the CVs to the designated place on Wednesday.
“Those CVs, we will send them (We must deliver those CVs),” he said.
The comedian-turned-activist was first arrested on February 21 on Parliament Road while leading a protest against the rising cost of living.
He was arrested along with 17 others and later charged in court for unlawful assembly. The case will be heard in May.
Omondi was arrested again on March 1 when he was distributing maize flour to his supporters at the City Stadium in Nairobi.
He was released unconditionally on March 6.
