Eric Omondi implored gospel singer Christina Shusho to drop the highly anticipated video for her song ‘Zakayo’ when he jetted to Tanzania.

The Kenyan comedian-turned-philanthropist was seen rubbing shoulders with Shusho in a video shared on the musician’s X account.

“Aiii hizi viatu umevaa hehehe,” Christina Shusho joked about Eric Omondi’s shoes.

“Naisubiria ngoma ya Zakay0,” Eric Omondi replied.

“Aiii usiniletee manene hehehe,” Shusho laughed off his suggestion.

‘Zakayo’ is a Swahili gospel song by Christina Shusho which is inspired by the biblical story of Zacchaeus, a tax collector who climbed a sycamore tree to see Jesus passing by.

In the song, Shusho uses the story of Zacchaeus to emphasize the theme of repentance, transformation, and the power of encountering Jesus.

Shusho dropped ‘Zakayo’ audio on April 24, 2024. She is yet to release the video.

Shusho’s song has created a buzz in Kenya given that the country’s President William Ruto is nicknamed ‘Zakayo’.

Kenyans christened Ruto ‘Zakayo’ in May 2023 in the wake of hefty tax proposals made by his government.

Ruto was likened to the biblical tax collector Zacchaeus (Zakayo in Swahili) who climbed the sycamore tree to see Jesus.

Speaking during the Labour Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, Ruto emphasized that he remains undeterred by the nickname ‘Zakayo the tax collector’ if it means Kenyans fulfil their tax obligations.

“Kuitwa Zakayo si jambo bora tulipe ushuru. Zakayo ni jina hakuna problem tunaweza kusonga mbele. Bora tujenge Kenya hii, watu wapate manyumba, tuwe na universal health coverage, watoto, vijana wetu wapate ajira. Zakayo ni jina, tuendelee mbele no problem,” Ruto said.
