Eddy Kenzo, the renowned Ugandan singer, married the Minister of State for Minerals in the Ministry of Energy and Minerals Development Phiona Nyamutoro in a low key traditional wedding over the past weekend.
Kenzo has navigated the highs and lows of both his career and personal life. While his music flourished, his romantic life faced significant challenges, especially after his highly publicized breakup with fellow artiste Rema Namakula.
Rema’s marriage to Dr. Hamza left Kenzo devastated and uncertain about finding love again. Yet, life took an unexpected turn, leading Kenzo to discover a new romance with State Minister for Mineral Development, Phiona Nyamutoro.
Kenzo and Rema’s relationship once captivated the public. They were seen as an ideal couple, their chemistry and shared musical passion evident to all. Their split shocked many, with Kenzo becoming the subject of public scorn, even earning the nickname “Semwokozo.”
The heartbreak of losing Rema to Dr. Hamza was profound, putting Kenzo’s love life on hold. However, he poured his emotions into his music, using it as a healing tool. Responding to his detractors, he released “Twayagale,” reassuring fans that he would find greater love—and that day has come.
Kenzo’s fortunes changed when he met Minister Nyamutoro. Their initial encounter occurred at a charity event where Kenzo performed. Impressed by his talent and moved by his lyrics, Nyamutoro introduced herself. Their conversation unveiled shared interests in philanthropy and community development, sparking a deep connection.
Their friendship quickly evolved into a romantic relationship. Nyamutoro’s empathy and support were a balm for Kenzo’s wounds. She admired his resilience and artistic dedication, while Kenzo was drawn to her intellect and kindness. They found common ground in their shared vision for a better Uganda and mutual respect for each other’s work.
Despite their blossoming relationship, Kenzo and Nyamutoro faced public skepticism. Many questioned the genuineness of their bond, given Kenzo’s previous heartbreak. Nevertheless, their love strengthened as they navigated the criticism together. Nyamutoro encouraged Kenzo to remain true to himself and his music, while Kenzo appreciated her steadfast belief in their relationship.
On Saturday 29th June 2024, their love story reached a milestone when Nyamutoro introduced Kenzo to her family at a grand ceremony in Buziga, a Kampala suburb.
The traditional wedding, blending their cultural traditions, was a joyous celebration attended by friends and family who witnessed their evident love and happiness.
