Dr. Roland Semakula celebrated for his compassion with children patients

Dr. Roland Semakula is making news for all good reasons across the region, Africa and the world. Dr. Roland Semakula in a photo that has gone viral is seen carrying a child on his back while at work.

 

The gesture has received a lot of support and celebration by internet users; who say he is an awesome medical practitioner.

Dr. Roland Semakula is a Medical Officer, Paediatric Hematology-Oncology, at Mulago Hospital; the largest and oldest Government hospital in Uganda.

Dr. Sabrina Kitaka shared the photo and captioned it:

“My hero today is Dr Roland Semakula ! PHO medical officer who is a compassionate and diligent doctor. Bravo!”

Dr. Sabrina Kitaka is a Senior Lecturer at Makerere University-Paediatrics Infectious Diseases and Adolescent Health Care. She says children and adolescents are our Future.

Dr. Roland Semakula work revolves around taking care of children who are in need of special treatment and attention to details. He is actively involved in the care and treatment of children diagnosed with both common and rare hematological and oncological disorders at Mulago’s Pediatric Hematology Oncology Unit.

This includes offering both inpatient and outpatient care needs. He also performs routine an invasive diagnostic procedures like preparing patients for ward rounds, grand rounds and tumor board review; in addition to aiding and participating in research.

Dr. Roland studied at Makerere University, College of Health Sciences. During his first and second year, he volunteered to guide his peers through Anatomy dissections. In the third year, he helped guide Makerere University College of Health Sciences to victory at the inaugural Inter-University Medical Quiz Challenge 2012.

He was also the Most Outstanding Male Student of his medical school class for the year 2012-2013.
