Felix Orinda, popularly known as DJ Evolve who was left paralyzed after being shot by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, will need to undergo three more surgeries in order to get back his conversational voice.
DJ Evolve’s father said his bedridden son can’t talk clearly at the moment but with the surgeries he is set to undergo he would be able to speak again.
“He cannot express himself very clearly. Sometimes when he speaks, it is very difficult to understand him but his nurses say they can immediately understand what he’s trying to say. The mucus plug makes things a bit difficult for Evolve,” DJ Evolve said during a recent interview.
DJ Evolve currently has a tracheostomy – a tube placed into the throat to help the patient breathe when the usual breathing route is blocked or reduced.
“We asked the doctor who has been treating Evolve since the shooting how long Evolve has to stay with the tube and he said my son has a blockage that needs to be removed. It will need three surgeries and they are not very easy to do. This is when he will get his voice back,” DJ Evolve’s father said.
“I have been having pressure about this matter for a very long time but I feel a bit calm now that there is light at the end of the tunnel that my son will become well. He is doing well, he has put on so much weight and I am happy about that,” he added.
DJ Evolve suffered paralysis after he was shot by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino on January 17, 2020, at a nightclub.
DJ Evolve has been bedridden since the tragic event. He has been receiving physiotherapy after undergoing three surgeries in the past two years.
The physiotherapy, which is paid for by Babu Owino, is helping the mix master regain some motor skills – functions that involve specific movements of the body’s muscles to perform a certain task.
