Diamond Platnumz started boycotting Tanzanian music awards years ago choosing only to embrace awards he wins internationally.

In an interview with the Tanzanian media, Diamond also shared his frustrations with the state of music awards in Tanzania and went on to explain why he snubs local awards.

Diamond cited concerns over fairness and transparency as his reason for shunning music awards in his country.

“You know why I said I wouldn’t participate? The awards are conducted in a manner that lacks fairness. Often the committee planning these awards wants to control you as an artiste. At this point, I can’t participate in that,” Diamond explained.

The Wasafi boss additionally expressed his desire to win more international awards.

Diamond has won MTV EMA awards Afrimma awards, has been nominated for BET awards multiple times but he is yet to bag Grammys – the most prestigious music award in the world.

“Winning an international award will open doors for other Tanzanian singers to be recognised in the global market,” he said.
