East Africa’s most successful musician Naseeb Abdul akaDiamond Platnumz has officially gotten a job in the government of Tanzania.

In an announcement that was made on Tuesday afternoon, Diamond is among the famous people who were appointed as youth representatives on the board to fight Malaria.

“Kama unavyofahamu katika kila watu 100 nchini Tanzania, watu 77 wana umri chini ya miaka 35. Asilimia 77 ya Watanzania ni vijana. Imempendeza mheshimiwa rais kumteua Naseeb Abdul maarufu Diamond Platnumz kuwa mwakilishi wa vijana katika baraza la kitaifa la kutokomeza malaria akiwakilisha wasanii wa kiume,” part of the statement read by the president’s representative said.

President Samia Suluhu defended Diamond’s appointment saying that the main criteria they looked for was his following on Instagram.

Diamond has has 15.9 million followers on Instagram.

“Ana followers milioni 15.9 kwenye Instagram. Kwa hiyo akiandika tu ‘sio kila homa ni malaria’ inawafikia watu wengi ndani ya sekunde moja,” the statement said.

In Kenya, a similar appointment was made in the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Arts and Sports where many famous artistes were appointed to various positions in the government.

In February this year, Sports CS Ababu Namwamba dished out government jobs to 11 celebrities.

The 11 public figures have been appointed to Talanta Hela Council committees – two technical committees for sports and for creatives.

The Creatives Technical Committee under the leadership of Daniel Ndambuki (Churchill) as Chairperson comprises 10 members including Akothee, Wahu, Azziad Nasenya among others
