Diamond Platnumz has launched a spirited fight against drug-use in his home country.
The Bongo singer asked young people to stop using drugs in a national address at an event that was attended by President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
Diamond spoke about this last weekend at the national celebration against drug use at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium on Sunday in Arusha.
According to the artiste, despite the fact that drug affect people’s health, he added that it also robs youths of opportunities.
“Ukiwa unatumia dawa za kulevya unaitwa teja hakuna ambaye atakupa kazi, hakuna ambaye atakupokea hata katika muziki sisi tukikuona tunakuona teja tu,” Diamond said.
He further stressed that there is no benefit in drug use, noting that drunk junkies live in deplorable conditions and are often treated as outcasts.
Diamond used himself as an example, saying that if a young person devotes himself and avoids drugs, he will be trusted and given opportunities to speak in front of respectable people, saying that if he was a drug user, no one would know him other than his friends in the slums of Tandale where he grew up.
“Leo mimi nimetoka Tandale nimefika Arusha kwa sababu naaminiwa,” said Diamond.
Diamond’s massage, who is also the Director of Wasafi Media, was cheered by hundreds of people who are participating in the celebration.
It should be remembered a few weeks ago, President Hassan also appointed Diamond among others in the council to fight against Malaria in the country.
