Brazilian authorities failed to recognize his ‘mheshimiwa’ status and kicked him out of the Olympic village in Rio.

Cherangany MP Wesley Korir was among the athletes who represented Kenya in the just concluded Rio Olympics. Hon. Korir ran in men’s marathon but he failed to complete the race, the marathon was won by Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge.

Kenyan athletes have been grumbling about how National Olympic Committee (NOCK) mistreated them in Rio.

Wesley was among those who were affected by NOCK mix-ups as he was forced to spend a night in the slums of Rio after he was kicked out of the Olympic village where all athletes were housed during the 2016 Olympics.

Olympic village closed before NOCK secured air tickets back home for Kenyan athletes. The frustrated athletes were forced to seek cheap accommodation in a ghetto.

“The best country in the world will spent their night in this “slum” like area in rio after the olympic village was closed !!! Unbelievable mistreatement of athletes!!!” Hon. Korir protested on social media.

Women bronze medalist in 800m, Margaret Wambui, was among those that spent the night in the slum alongside Hon. Korir.
