Burna Boy who also answers to the “African Giant” moniker given to him by fans for his tremendous contribution to African music finally opened up the door to his mansion in Lagos, Nigeria.
The Grammy Award winner opened his door to Architectural Digest to give a tour of his Lagos mansion explaining every detail of the house to them the best way he knows how.
The mansion also has a bar which he admitted to being a very important part of his mansion.
Downstairs where he has the living room, right next to the welcoming lounge, he has a room that he loves to refer to as the “Burna room” where he has a family wall where he hangs the photos of his family, he even has a photo of his grandfather (who was a manager of Fela Kuti) together with Fela Kuti.
The photo that is beautifully framed and hanged on the wall was taken a couple of years ago.
In the Burna room, he also has a couple of his favorite old vinyl studio projects –with most of them given to him by his grandfather– hanging on the wall with a Bob Marley compilation project and his ‘Twice As Tall’ studio album being some of the many pieces of vinyl he’s put up on his wall for display. This is the same room where he usually comes to get some inspiration when he needs to.
“So this is my favorite room, the Burna room. So this is where I come to get my inspiration and get my head right, and stuff. A lot of special things here, see all the old records and vinyls most of them given to me by my Granddad,” Burna Boy explained.
Burna Boy has rooms for his sisters; Nissi, and Roni.
On the first floor, there’s his little sister’s room. Roni’s room is somewhat unique from the rest of the other rooms, it has a unique ceiling that stands out.
Burna Boy also gave a tour of his other sister’s room. Her sister Nissi is the one responsible for almost all the paintings inside Burna Boy’s mansion, she’s an artist but her brother is an artiste.
“With all the paintings in the house, she’s done them so, she’s probably about to cook something up[refering to the blank canvas inside Nissi’s room],” Burna Boy said while inside his sister’s room.
On the second floor that still has a living room is where Burna Boy hangs his plaques and of course, his Oscar Award that he won in 2020 for the ‘Best Global Music Album’ for ‘Twice As Tall’ studio album. In the same room, he also has a small bar.
“I told you I had 400 bars in here, got to get lit!” Burna Boy playfully said.
He said that if he would have hanged all his plaques –which are so many– in the same wall, it would have looked like a shrine thus the reason why he’s hanged a few of them as opposed to hanging all of them.
“This is kind of like as many awards as I could fit because this whole place would look like a shrine if you put all of them,” he said.
The Lagos mansion has a movie place that has some of his favorite movie and blockbusters series posters framed and hanged on the wall. Some of the posters are; La Casa de Papel, The Godfather, Fast and Furious, Stranger Things, Boyz N The Hood, Rocky, ScarFace, Kill Bill, John Wick, Pulp Fiction, Training Day, Fight Club, Joker, to name a few. He must really be a Quentin Tarantino fan since he has lots of his movies on his cinema wall.
“If you don’t know Stranger Things, we have issues… I think this wall just shows you how to win my heart you know,” he said as he was showing the movie posters on the wall.
His room has a closet full of different designer shoes, and apparel, lots of them.
Burna Boy’s mansion has a swimming pool with the “African Giant” written inside the pool that you can see when you’re downstairs. There’s also a sunk-in lounge area with a fireplace right next to the swimming pool.
“So basically the idea for this way, I wanted it to feel like the pool was going in the house, that’s my little idea,” Burna on his swimming pool.
It also has a studio with the entrance of the same being a false door that’s hidden by a huge drawing of himself.
