Raila Odinga couldn’t figure out Bahati’s name during a campaign rally at the Kamukunji grounds, so he gave him a nickname that has since stuck.

The ODM leader campaigned in Nairobi on Monday, May 16th after naming Martha Karua as his running mate in the August 9th general election.

Raila and his Azimio la Umoja One Kenya alliance held a rally at Kamukunji grounds, graced by all politicians running for various seats in Nairobi county.

Bahati, who is vying for the Mathare MP seat under Jubilee Party, was among the aspirants who accompanied Raila to the campaign rally in Nairobi.

The ODM leader couldn’t quite figure out Bahati’s name while introducing aspirants present at the Kamukunji grounds.

In the video that has since gone viral on social media, Bahati is heard trying to whisper “Bahati, Mathare” to the Azimio la Umoja flagbearer.

After several attempts, Raila went ahead to call Bahati “Mathew”, before introducing Jalang’o who is eyeing the Lang’ata parliamentary seat.

Bahati however did not sway following the confusion and waved to the crowd and smiled after Raila introduced him as Mathew to the crowd.

The singer-turned-politician has since accepted his new name, ‘Mathew’.

“Mnasema Baba ameniongezea Jina tuuu hivyo….. BAHATI KIOKO a.k.a MATHEW…Nimekubali,” he wrote on his Instagram page.
