Digital content creator and radio presenter Azziad Nasenya has addressed claims that he is among Kenya’s representatives heading to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
These allegations surfaced after Kenyans accused former Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ababu Namwamba of including friends instead of athletes on the official list.
Azziad’s name was mentioned in the mix, prompting him to clarify his involvement and relationship with the document led by Namwamba.
Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account, Azziad firmly denied the allegations.
“I am not part of the Kenyan delegation to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. It is unfortunate that someone would come up with false allegations about such a matter. My involvement with the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports was about the technical committee of designers of Talent Council, led by Daniel Ndambuki, AKA Churchill. I was elected and given the mandate to represent the youth in the technical committee. However, the committee was dissolved in June 2023. I have not been involved since then,” Azziad wrote.
Azziad’s statement comes amid mounting pressure from some Kenyans for the Sports Ministry to disclose the full list of non-athletes who will accompany the Olympic team to Paris.
Three Kenyans, Charleen Njuguna, Jolly Lanji, and Baverlyne Kwamboka, through their lawyers, have expressed concerns about the financial burden on Kenyan taxpayers and are demanding transparency from the ministry.
Last week, during a farewell event at the State House, former Sports CS Ababu Namwamba and President William Ruto assured that there would be no room for non-essential personnel in the delegation.
This move aims to address public outcry and ensure that only those directly contributing to the Olympic team’s success will travel to Paris.
