Akothee has come out to show her appreciation to Diamond Platnumz whom she earnestly thanks for giving her music career a major boost.
For starters, Akothee and Diamond collaborated in 2016 to drop a hit song dubbed ‘Sweet Love’. The song put Akothee on the continental music map and she went on to do land another major collabo with Nigerian heartthrob Flavor.
Akothee’s song with Diamond was dropped in January 2016, and two months later she worked with Flavor to drop ‘Give It To Me’ which was also a big hit.
‘Sweet Love’ and ‘Give It To Me’ earned Akothee continental recognition, that same year she was nominated and won two awards at the African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) and Africa Entertainment Awards USA (AEAUSA).
Akothee won the Best Female Artiste in East Africa at the AFRIMMA award and the Best Female at the Africa Entertainment Awards USA.
The controversial Kenyan singer has now come out to show her appreciation to Diamond whom she credits for her music success. Speaking during an interview on Mambo Mseto, Akothee said that Diamond introduced her to his fans across the continent.
Akothee further noted that ‘Sweet Love’ was the first song to be recorded at Wasafi studios, and that they spent the whole night working on it.
“Kufanya kazi na Diamond iliweza kusukuma kazi ya kwangu kwa sababu aliweza kuniintroduce katika fan base yake ya Watanzania na hata Wakenya pia,” said Akothee.
Adding that;
“Nikienda kufanya kazi na Diamond naweza kusema nilikuwa bado mbichi katika mambo ya usanii na niliweza kujifunza mambo mengi sana kutoka kwake. Kwa mafano kuwa mvumilivu, kufanya kazi extra hours na kuignore haters.”
Akothee further revealed that she first met Diamond in South Africa while working with popular video director The God Father on another project.
“Diamond aliona kwamba kuna talent. Sitasema ulikuwa marafiki lakini inasemekana it depends on the streets where you walk… mara yangu ya kwanza kukutana na Diamond niliweza kufanya kazi na God Father tukakutana naye South Africa,” said Akothee.
