In a poignant intersection of medicine and music, Kenya’s most famous trapping pediatrician, Dr Reign, has released a deeply personal music video for his latest single, ‘Mama We Made It’, serving as a moving tribute to his late mother.

The official visuals, which dropped on Thursday, December 12, 2025—deliberately timed to coincide with Kenya’s Jamhuri Day celebrations—detail the remarkable ascent of the artist, born Ngala Reign Mwendwa, from a scrappy freestyle battle rapper to a high-achieving consultant pediatrician.

The song is a direct letter to his mother, the late Rahab Wanjiku Mwendwa, and seeks to celebrate the realization of the dreams they once shared.

Directed by CJ Pixels and shot in South Africa, the video is far from the typical flashy hip-hop fare.

In a touching move, Dr. Reign invited his sister, Massie Dee, to make a special appearance.

Her presence in the video serves as a powerful symbol of the family’s collective success and their shared grief, grounding the high-gloss production in raw, authentic emotion.

Fans have described the video as a “tear-jerker,” as it juxtaposes the doctor’s professional success in the medical field with the bittersweet reality of his mother not being present to witness it.

The rapper’s mother passed away in 2013, coinciding with his return to Kenya after completing seven years of medical training in Russia.

Dr Reign has long fascinated the Kenyan public with his unique dual identity.

By day, he is a respected consultant pediatrician, navigating the high-stakes environment of a hospital; by night, he is a prominent figure in the “trap” and hip-hop scene.

‘Mama We Made It’ serves as his most transparent work to date, tracing his journey through the music industry following his 2024 collaborative success with Asum Garvey.

The track, which first hit streaming platforms on November 28, has already resonated with audiences for its “rag-to-riches” narrative that prioritizes family legacy over material wealth.

By choosing to release the video on Jamhuri Day—a day marking Kenya’s independence—Dr Reign has framed his personal success as part of a larger story of Kenyan excellence, all while keeping his mother’s memory at the very heart of his achievement.
