Social media was thrown into a frenzy in August 2025 after a Kenyan man posted a photograph online claiming to be the firstborn son of billionaire Tesla boss Elon Musk — a sensational allegation that quickly went viral before being thoroughly dismantled by internet sleuths.
Nyakundi Kibiru, a 40-year-old Kenyan man, stunned online audiences after sharing what he described as “proof” that he is Musk’s eldest child.
In the now widely circulated post, Kibiru alleged that Musk — who already has 14 known children — fathered him during a supposed encounter with his mother at a hotel in the Masai Mara in the early 1990s.
Kibiru shared a photo of himself alongside the claim, insisting that his facial resemblance to the world-famous tech mogul was “undeniable” and publicly challenging Elon Musk to take a DNA test.

But it did not take long for the internet to tear the story apart.
The dramatic revelation initially attracted curiosity, with some users agreeing that the man’s facial structure vaguely resembled Musk’s.
But the intrigue lasted only moments before the story began to collapse under the weight of its own inconsistencies.
They include:
Age blunder
Kibiru claimed Elon Musk was 20 years old when he met his Kenyan mother in the early 1990s.
But Musk was born in 1971, meaning he would have been between 12 and 14 years old during that period — a glaring contradiction that immediately raised red flags.
AI image suspicion
A closer look at the photo shared by Kibiru sparked further doubt.
Sharp-eyed users pointed out oddities typical of AI-generated images — including a shirt button that appeared to have no buttonhole.
These digital imperfections strongly suggested that the “evidence” he posted was not authentic.
No supporting details
The account behind the claim offered no verifiable information, no supporting documents, and no additional photographs.
With nothing to back up the sensational story, online users quickly labelled the entire saga a hoax.
Silence from Musk
Elon Musk, who is known for engaging with outrageous claims online, has made no comment on the matter — perhaps a sign of how unserious the allegation is considered in his camp.
