Yellow conman: Family fallout erupts after Betty Bayo’s burial as brother alleges millions missing, children neglected

Barely days after the late gospel singer Betty Bayo was laid to rest, an explosive family feud has erupted — with her brother now claiming that tensions behind the scenes have spiralled completely out of control.

While mourners assumed unity prevailed during the emotional burial, fresh revelations suggest the atmosphere within the family has been anything but peaceful.

According to her brother, Edward Kang’ethe Mbugua, relations between the family and Betty’s husband, Hiram Gitau, popularly known as Tash, have dramatically deteriorated.

Speaking in a candid online interview, Edward painted a grim picture of what he describes as a complete shift in Tash’s behaviour since the burial.

According to him, Tash has allegedly cut ties with the family, ignored meeting requests and refused to engage in discussions concerning the couple’s young children — meetings the family hoped would map out the children’s future.

Edward further claimed that instead of collaborating, Tash now wants to drag the matter to court, insisting that the two sides cannot reach any amicable agreement.

But his most explosive accusations were financial.

Edward alleged that after the burial ceremony — during which millions were raised — Tash “took full control” of the funds and has declined to offer any accountability.

“He never married Betty officially — no dowry, never paid a dime towards the kids’ welfare. Only Prophet Kanyari did that. Now he is manipulating watoto because of the burial money,” Edward claimed.

He didn’t stop there.

“Even the rent had not been paid for three months! Those who fear using common sense can continue supporting that yellow conman! A mkora cannot stay with a teenage girl — no way!” he added, in a tirade that has since gone viral.

Edward went on to allege that the family doesn’t even know the total amount collected during fundraising because Tash has kept the finances entirely under his control.

Most alarmingly, he claimed that the Ksh10 million donated by President William Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki — funds meant to go into a trust for Betty’s children — has still not been deposited.

According to him, the delay is because Tash has allegedly failed to provide the necessary documentation required to set up the trust.

Asked why he had chosen to go public at this moment of mourning, Edward said the family had exhausted all private channels.

“We have tried everything to resolve this quietly,” he said. “But Tash refuses to cooperate. This was our last resort.”

The allegations have ignited intense debate online, with Kenyans now demanding clarity amid fears that the late singer’s children could be caught in the middle of an increasingly bitter standoff.

The family awaits Tash’s response — but for now, what began as a solemn farewell to a beloved musician has erupted into a full-blown family crisis.
