Mrisho Mpoto has opened up about the heartbreaking final hours he spent with his wife, revealing her deeply emotional request just before her sudden death.
The Tanzanian poet and singer recounted the intimate moment, describing it as one of the most tender and painful experiences of his life.

In a raw and emotional interview with Rick Media on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, Mpoto opened up about the heartbreaking night before his wife Mariam Mobetto Mpoto passed away—recounting a moment that now haunts him.

“She turned to me and said, ‘My husband, when was the last time we bathed together?’” Mpoto recalled, visibly shaken.
“We had been together for so many years… you take these small things for granted.”
Mariam, who had been battling illness for some time, told her husband she no longer had the strength to bathe herself.
Respecting her wish, Mpoto gently drew a bath for her in their home jacuzzi around 2:00 am. It was, he now realises, a final act of closeness.
“I bathed her carefully,” he said, voice trembling.
“Then we got into bed and she asked me to hold her. She didn’t want to let go. I held her through the night.”
By morning, Mariam complained that her blood pressure machine wasn’t working properly.
The couple rushed to a nearby clinic where doctors confirmed that her pressure was alarmingly high. Even in that moment of distress, Mariam’s thoughts were with her faith.
“She kept asking, ‘Where is my sheikh?’” Mpoto recalled. “It was like she was preparing herself.”
Shortly after hearing that her spiritual leader had arrived at the house, Mariam excused herself to use the bathroom. But tragically, she never came back out.
“She collapsed in there. Her heart just stopped,” Mpoto said softly.
The grief-stricken singer said what pains him the most is something she asked before they left for the clinic.

“She kept repeating, ‘Do you think we’ll go back home today?’ I didn’t know those would be her last words.”
