A post-mortem examination conducted on the body of 86-year-old Dorita Lasinder Macharia has revealed that she died from excessive blood loss after suffering multiple stab wounds, including deep injuries to her neck and face.

Government pathologist Dr Bernard Midia conducted the examination on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, establishing that the elderly woman sustained approximately 20 stab wounds.

The examination reportedly established that some of the injuries were particularly deep, with two severe wounds to her neck damaging vital blood vessels and causing massive bleeding.

The findings have provided further details about the circumstances surrounding the death of the mother of veteran television host and actress Regina Wambui Gitau, popularly known as Regina Re.

Dorita was found dead inside her family residence at Loresho Ridge Estate in Nairobi on the night of Friday, October 30, 2026.

Her death prompted police investigations, leading to the arrest of four relatives, including Regina Re, her brother Antony Jimmy Macharia, granddaughter Thandie Malaika Wanjiku Gitao and Thandie’s boyfriend, Immanuel Waigwe Munyeki.

According to an affidavit presented by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) at the Kibera Law Courts, the incident was preceded by a domestic disagreement involving the elderly woman and her granddaughter.

Investigators alleged that Dorita confronted Thandie after finding her in a compromising situation with her boyfriend inside a bedroom.

The elderly woman reportedly ordered Thandie, her boyfriend and their friends to leave the house and demanded that they surrender the keys.

According to the investigators, an argument followed before Thandie initially left the residence.

She later returned and reportedly remained alone with her grandmother inside the house for approximately an hour.

The affidavit further indicated that Thandie subsequently rushed outside screaming that her grandmother was bleeding.

Regina Re and the other three suspects were arrested on October 31, 2026, as detectives pursued investigations into the killing.

According to the investigating officer, Regina and her brother Antony were allegedly found attempting to clean the room where their mother had been killed.

Police told the court that the two were suspected of interfering with the crime scene and potentially compromising forensic evidence.

The four suspects were subsequently presented before the Kibera Law Courts, where police obtained a 10-day custodial order to facilitate further investigations.

Detectives are pursuing additional evidence, including CCTV footage, mobile phone records and forensic examinations, before forwarding their findings to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The four individuals remain suspects, and none has been convicted or formally charged with murder.
