The Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, through its Magical Kenya – Origin of Wonder platform, has entered into a strategic partnership with Google Kenya to accelerate an ambitious AI-powered transformation of the country’s tourism sector. The collaboration, informed by recommendations from the Kenya Tourism Rebranding and Repositioning Taskforce, seeks to position Kenya as Africa’s leading AI-first tourism destination.

Anchored on the Magical Kenya platform, the partnership is designed to connect international travellers more directly to Kenya’s diverse and unique tourism experiences while modernising how the country markets, manages and grows its tourism economy. The initiative aims to increase visitor arrivals, create new economic opportunities and shift tourism planning from intuition-led decision making to a real-time, data-driven ecosystem tailored to evolving traveller preferences.

Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Hon. Rebecca Miano, described the partnership as a transformative step for Kenya’s tourism industry.

“Adopting an AI-first approach allows us to move beyond traditional destination marketing and build a sophisticated digital infrastructure that will position Kenya as Africa’s premier digitally enabled tourism destination. Through this partnership, we aim to significantly increase international arrivals, boost tourism revenues and unlock greater economic prosperity for Kenyans,” she said.

The strategy will leverage advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies to attract high-value travellers from key global source markets through more precise audience targeting and personalised engagement.

As part of the initiative, the Ministry and Google will co-develop a Tourism Pulse Data Hub on Google Cloud — a real-time intelligence platform designed to analyse global travel demand signals, Google Search behaviour and destination sentiment. The platform will provide policymakers and tourism stakeholders with actionable insights to respond faster to market shifts and changing traveller interests.

The collaboration will also introduce an AI-powered trip planning experience built on Google’s Gemini models, enabling travellers to receive highly personalised itineraries tailored to their interests, travel styles and preferences — moving beyond traditional, standardised travel packages.

Digital skills development will form a central pillar of the partnership. Through Google’s skilling programmes, young people and tourism-focused SMEs will receive specialised digital training to strengthen their competitiveness in an increasingly technology-driven global tourism economy. The initiative will also empower local creators and curators to develop immersive tourism experiences using Kenya’s digital assets on Google Arts & Culture, opening up new pathways for innovation and employment.

To strengthen Kenya’s global tourism visibility, the partnership will harness Google Ads and Google Analytics to deliver precision marketing campaigns aimed at prospective travellers in priority markets at key decision-making moments in their travel planning journey.

Alex Okosi, Managing Director for Google Sub-Saharan Africa, said the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to innovation and inclusive growth.

“We are excited about the opportunity to harness AI and digital skilling to support Kenyan youth and tourism SMEs. By enabling ecosystem innovators, training local curators and providing advanced market intelligence, we are helping to build a more resilient, inclusive and globally competitive tourism economy that showcases the best of Kenya to the world.”

The partnership marks a significant step toward building a modern, intelligence-led tourism infrastructure that strengthens Kenya’s competitiveness and secures its position as one of the world’s most compelling travel destinations for the future.
