Zari Hassan has refuted claims her son Raphael Ssemwanga is gay, days after he came out confessing that he likes men.
Rafael revealed that he was gay on December 7th 2020 during live video session on his Instagram account.
“I’m serious. I’m gay hundred percent gay and not you know bi or anything and I don’t know why you guys are laughing at this its not funny,” said Rafael in part.

Zari has since come out to address her son’s sexuality, insisting that the 14-year-old is not gay. The mother of five says Rafael’s confession to being gay was taken out of context.
“I think there have been videos trending on my son when he came out to claim that he is gay, and it has been blown out of proportion. I am going to be clear about one thing, Raphael is not gay, Raphael is dating, and he started dating when he was 14 years old. And when I say dating I don’t mean sleeping with girls,” said Zari.
The mother of five also affirmed that if indeed Raphael or any of his sons come out as gay she will fully support them.
“If for instance or example Raphael turned out to be gay today I am going to tell you as his parent as his mom that it is something that I am going to support him through, it’s my duty as a parent because that will be a choice that he has decided in life.”
