Amber Ray’s former husband Nyaribari Chache Member of Parliament (MP) Zaheer Merlahi Jhanda has vowed to present a bill in Parliament to increase tax on beauty products.
Speaking to reporters outside Parliament on Thursday, September 29, 2022, when President Willian Ruto officially opened Parliament, Jhanda said the tax on products such as cosmetics, wigs, and false eyelashes should be increased.
“Nitahakikisha muswada huo nimeusukuma na hiyo bei iongezeke ile tuweze kuchukua ushuru kutoka kwa akina mama hao,” he said.
Jhanda said that women should not complain about the increase in the price of beauty products and pointed out that men are the ones who give them the money to buy them.
“Hilo suala la make up, watajua hawajui. Huo muswada lazima upitishwe bungeni,” he said.
The MP pointed out that the government should find ways to increase tax revenue, including taxing beauty products.
He said the time has come for women to learn to be natural.
“Hao wamama wametusumbua sana. Hao wanadada ndio wanatumia hizi viti. Nataka ushuru upandishwe 100% katika bidhaa kama vipondozi. Hawa watu wametusumbua sana,” Jhanda said.
Jhanda was elected Nyaribari Chache MP in August 9, 2022, General Election on the UDA party ticket. He succeeded former member of parliament Richard Nyagaka Tongi.
The Nyaribari Chache MP had married socialite Amber Ray as his second wife.
The socialite eloped with Jhanda sometime in 2016 sparking a furious reaction from the politician’s first wife Aaliyah Zaheer who exposed her claiming she is a husband-snatcher.
Aaliyah further lamented that the socialite was using witchcraft to attract the attention and money of her husband and father to their four kids.
In August 2018, Amber Ray publicly announced that she had parted ways with the politician turned businessman.
“I would like to inform you that I am no longer married to Zaheer and no one should link me to him or his family in whatever way. It has been a great couple of years despite the challenges that I have come across, I apologise to my son and my family for all the insults they have had to bear in the past because of my decisions,” Amber Ray wrote.
