The entire country is outraged after one woman was denied maternal services in Pumwani Maternity hospital in Pumwani.
In a viral video, a woman is seen writhing in unimaginable pain after coming out of a taxi that brought her there.
The woman who hasn’t been unidentified yet laid down on the ground, right outside the hospital’s gate which didn’t seem to care about what the woman in question was going through.
The incident is believed to have taken place last week but the video of the incident made its way on social media on Friday, September 18, 2020, as shared by concerned citizens.
The incident has sparked a public uproar, especially after security guards denied the expectant mother into the hospital.
“Hawezi bebwa. Siezi mbeba ako na uchungu mingi mtoto ashatoka! (I cannot carry her to another hospital. She is in so much pain and the baby has already been born),” the Taxi driver told the mob that was eager to know what was going on.
NMS apologizes for Pumwani Maternity Hospital delivery saga
Reportedly, the hospital staff came running to the stranded woman outside their gates after the public uproar.
Nairobi Women Representative, Esther Passaris took to social media to condemn the negligence of Pumwani Maternity Hospital that was witnessed by thousands of people on social media after the video went viral.
“The mistreatment of a pregnant woman at the gates of Pumwani Maternity Hospital is a shameful indictment of our health facilities. An enduring state is judged by the social services to its most vulnerable citizens.
“We failed this mother and her child at her hour of need, yet the Universal Health Coverage is among President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Big Four Agenda. I demand that the NMS and Inspector General speed up investigations into this matter,” Passaris said.

I am here expecting all the politicians and especially the female politicians that came out demanding #RespectOurMothers, to come out to fight for her and all mothers being denied hospital service as we speak.. we expect you to hit the streets in demonstration and demand better.
