A witness in Monica Kimani murder case has told the court that Jacque Maribe was in the company of Nairobi governor Mike Sonko when the slain businesswoman is said to have been murdered.
Chelangat Ruto, who took to the stand on Wednesday November 27th, testified that Maribe and Sonko were at 40Forty Lounge in Westlands, Nairobi on the night of September 19th 2018.
Police suspect that Monica Kimani was murdered either on September 19th or 20th. Monica was found brutally murdered in her Kilimani apartment, her lifeless body was found in the bathtub with her neck slit from ear to ear. Her mouth was taped shut, her hands tied at the back and her feet were also bound.
The witness revealed that she and her friend identified as June Juliet had had late lunch together with Joseph Irungu ‘Jowie’ and another man on September 18th at Q Lounge in Kilimani. She further said Jowie left early when he received a call.
Chelangat Ruto explained that her friend June was preparing Sonko who was scheduled to have an interview with Citizen TV on the same night. They later proceeded to RMS office where they stayed until Sonko completed the interview.
At RMS offices, they met Maribe and exchanged pleasantries before she went back to work. After the show, they (Chelangat Ruto, her friend June, Maribe and Sonko) proceeded to 40Forty and stayed up to around 4am.
The witness said that Jowie joined them at 40Forty later at around 1am. At the time they left the club, the witness said that Jowie left in Maribe’s car.
