Willy Paul’s gig in Saudi Arabia faced unexpected turmoil when a fight broke out between Kenyan and Ugandan attendees, ultimately leading to the cancellation of the event.
The incident occurred despite all concert tickets having been sold in advance.
Willy Paul, known for his love songs, expressed his dismay over the situation through an Instagram post, attributing part of the chaos to the event organizers.
He criticized the management for disrupting the event schedule, suggesting that a miscommunication was a key factor in escalating tensions.
“Last night in Saudi Arabia was the night of a lot of sadness in my life. Everything was cool until Kenyans and Ugandans started fighting,” Pozee said.
Willy Paul explained that he and fellow performer Lil Pazo from Uganda were scheduled to perform much later, yet the promoter moved Willy Paul’s appearance to an early morning slot instead.
“I was ready to perform from midnight but the promoter took me on stage at in the morning,” he lamented.
In a shocking turn of events, Willy Paul shared a video capturing the chaotic scenes of the aborted concert, detailing how the conflict unfolded.
“When Lil Pazo went on stage, Kenyans threw everything at him making him leave the stage. When I finally got on stage, Kenyans were happy but not Ugandans, so Ugandans threw everything they had at me,” he recounted.
The turmoil resulted in some minor injuries among fans, prompting Willy Paul to call for peace among the East African community.
“It was a very bad event. Small wounds… The East African war is not the solution to everything. I love you all,” he urged.
Willy Paul, who has been on an extensive musical tour, was expected to continue his performances, including a gig at the Gold Party concert in Saudi Arabia aimed at fostering unity among African fans.
The incident highlights the challenges artists sometimes face in bringing together diverse audiences and emphasizes the need for understanding and cooperation in multicultural events.
