Willy Paul on Monday, March 4, 2024, evening was released from the Karuri Police Station in Kiambu County where he had been detained for several hours.
The singer was arrested on Monday morning at his home in Syokimau before being detained at the police station for most of the day. However, he was released in the evening and allowed to go home after paying bail.
While speaking after his release, the artiste informed his fans that he was fine and thanked them for their support.
“I just want to say that I’m grateful for all the support and I’m humbled. I’m home safe, God bless you,” Willy Paul said in a video he posted on his Instagram page.
Pozee however did not talk about his arrest nor reveal why he was detained at the police station for several hours.
Caroline Jiseve, the lawyer representing Diana Marua, said that Willy Paul was arrested in relation to a cyber harassment case in 2021.
While speaking to journalists on Monday, Jiseve revealed that it was a case filed by her client Diana Marua in 2021 that caused the former gospel artiste to be arrested and remanded.
“I am Diana Bahati’s lawyer. We have come here because of the report Diana gave in 2021 about cyber bullying. He had accused Willy Paul, that’s why he was caught this morning, we caught him,” Caroline Jiseve said.
Speaking about the delay in the artist’s arrest, the lawyer claimed Willy Paul failed to honor police summons after being called several times following the completion of the investigation and orders for his arrest.
He also said that the controversial love singer will be formally charged in court on Tuesday.
“The case of cyberbullying was the one in 2021 that affected Diana and the children, which was very popular, the rest will be known when he is taken to court tomorrow,” he said.
Reliable sources say that Willy Paul was allowed to go home after paying Ksh100,000 police bail.
