Celebrated Nollywood actor John Okafor aka Mr Ibu died on March 2, 2024, but to date, his family has not yet buried his remains.
Mr Ibu passed on weeks after he underwent successful surgeries that led to the amputation of one of his legs.
The President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Dr Emeka Rollas, who confirmed his death, said he died of cardiac arrest
“Mr Ibu suffered cardiac arrest according to his manager for 24 years Mr Don Single Nwuzor. I announce with deep sense of grief that Mr Ibu didn’t make it. May his soul rest in peace,” Rollas said.
Mr Ibu’s family revealed that the late actor will be interred three months after his death.
The burial for the late Nollywood actor is set for June 28, 2024, as revealed by his elder brother, Sunday Okafor.
The chosen date reflects the family’s desire to honor Mr Ibu with a distinguished farewell, befitting his esteemed status in the entertainment world.
According to Sunday Okafor, “We wish to pay tribute to the cherished memory of our beloved icon, John Ikechukwu Okafor, who even in passing, leaves behind a legacy of joy, laughter, and vitality.”
The Okafor family, in collaboration with the burial committee, extends an invitation to all to join in commemorating the life and contributions of Mr. Ibu.
The burial proceedings will span five days, with events beginning on Tuesday, June 25, featuring a high-profile novelty match to honor the late actor.
Wednesday, June 26, will host “Mr. Ibu’s Night,” a special occasion featuring a candlelight procession and live entertainment to celebrate his enduring legacy.
Reflecting on the significance of the ceremony, Sunday Okafor expressed, “We encourage all to join us as we bid farewell to our beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and in-law.” The funeral activities will continue on June 27 with a Christian Wake-Keep held at Mr. Ibu’s residence in Eziokwe Amuri, Nkanu West, leading up to the final rites on June 28.
The burial committee, under the leadership of Hon. Monday Diamond Ani, has been entrusted with coordinating the arrangements for the ceremonies.
