Lawrence Njuguna aka DJ Fatxo claimed that he tried unsuccessfully to contact the family of the late Jeff Mwathi to join them in the burial of their loved one.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, DJ Fatxo, who has been in the spotlight in recent days after the 23-year-old died at his home, said that he was the one who broke the news of Jeff’s death to his family through telephone.
He said he informed the family members of the deceased about what happened after filing a report at the police station.
“I actually contacted them and told them I can help them bury the child and let’s cooperate with them because it was something that saddened me too,” he said.
The singer unfortunately regretted that there was no good communication between him and the Mwathi’s family. He said he called more than eight times in an effort to contact the family.
After failing to reach an agreement with the family of the deceased, Fatxo says he asked his mother to help him.
“I asked my mother to call a family member and ask them to cooperate with them because this is something new to me. There is no way I would lose a friend and not mourn him. Maybe Jeff’s mother was not given the report, maybe she was not told that I want to meet. But we looked for them,” he said.
DJ Fatxo said he was ready to help the family in the funeral but could not do so due to lack of good communication.
He also made it clear that he could not attend Jeff’s funeral at their home in Nakuru County as he did not know what would happen.
“When there was a lack of communication, to be honest I wouldn’t even go to the funeral because I don’t know what was planned. I wouldn’t post it on my social media pages because what was being said was not true,” he said.
The musician said following that he chose to remain silent and let the detectives do their work.
He expressed his confidence in the new DCI investigation team saying that he too needs answers about what happened.
