What happened to Churchill Show’s Consumator Comedian?

Consumator Comedian is a famous Kenyan comedian who rose to fame for his sweet and witty love poems, well written and articulately delivered. After gracing the Churchill Show for seasons, Consumator Comedian disappeared from the radar. I truly feel his absence in the industry, I do.

When things got tight beyond expectations in April of this year, comedian Peter Wamwea—better known by his stage moniker “Consumator Comedian” came back and made an appeal for financial support.

“Guys I have no issues taking care of things. I do it joyfully and with a smile. I have absolutely no issues performing vibarua kwa shamba. Consumator posted on his Instagram Stories, “I will do anything that will assist me raise any money for the illness of my dad.

Even after seeking help, he would still need courage and strength to handle critics and stigma as a result of how the news of his hardship was packaged and published.

Consumator says, “I spoke about my issues. I thought I will be at peace. Now I have to deal with STIGMA of people pointing at me and discussing me. But the greatest stigma comes from closest people and family who thought I should not have talked the way I talked. Should I walk with a mask to avoid ridicule? No!! I take pride in telling my story. I was prepared for the aftermath. Am willing to get out of bad to better.”

Consumator took to his social media to reveal that he was then working as a caretaker and had been struggling with not only financial difficulties but the illness of a loved one.

He is not the only one who’s going through difficulties, Tahidi High star, Omosh Kizangila has been ridiculed constantly, and many people care-free continue to make this a normality; what a sad angle to exploit.

Even though Omosh received support and he allegedly fumbled over the gestures; it would be noble to just shelve that and focus on what the root issue is and how he can be assisted.

Consumator Comedian is back

Anyway, Consumator Comedian is back chasing his newly found love Justina Syokau, but is it for real? Only time will tell. Using a placard, the comedian says he’s in love and wants to marry the Twendy Twendy hit singer.

The two are not new to each other, they’ve been friends for a minute now.

Consumator says he will not make his fans laugh anymore, he promises to spend the rest of his comedy career making Miss Syokau happy exclusively, LOL!

“Kwa wale mnadhani niko na mchezo, shauri yenu! Me and her is possible (some tbt)”  he continues with a nice old photo of them.

Back to the elephant in the room; most of our creatives might unfortunately never make a decent living off their talents because of many reasons that do not favor them in terms of revenue generation, copyrights protection, royalties collection, split sheets transparency and disbursement of these funds as people mandated to oversee this, always seem to face challenges year out, team after team.

The starting point to mitigating these problems in the long run is to have proper systems and laws protecting creatives legislated in parliament-upheld and protected by the government of Kenya; until then, the blame game will play on, only a few will benefit from this lucrative industry: most of whom are not creatives or have never been artists as we’ve seen for decades.

Entertainment is a very lucrative industry in many countries including the super powers: still unbelievable that we continue to see it as a third class industry here.

A big shout out to all Kenyans, companies and institutions that continue to support our creatives.
