Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) rebel MPs have threatened to kick their leader Raila Odinga from the party.
The MPs are Funyula MP Paul Otuoma and his Budalangi counterpart Ababu Namwamba.
The MPs accused Raila of dictatorship in ODM.
ODM rebel MPs in Western Kenya have told Raila Odinga they will kick him out of the party.
The rebel MPs led by Funyula MP Paul Otuoma and his Budalangi counterpart Ababu Namwamba said they will take over the party and change its name.
The two leaders accused Raila of dictatorship and failing to engage in dialogue with party members on crucial decisions.
“I want Raila to know that we own the party and it’s not the party that owns us,
“We can even change the name of the party,” Otuoma said.
Otuoma said Raila does not own ODM and instead it’s the members who do and they will not be intimidated by his supporters.
The leaders also urged the former prime minister to retire from politics and leave the party leaders to a new generation of leaders.
ODM has been hit by a wave of defections and growing rebellion in Western Kenya.
Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba resigned from his position as the party secretary-general citing frustration from party insiders.
Namwamba has since hinted at forming a third force that will rival both the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) and the Jubilee coalitions in the 2017 polls.
Funyula MP Paul Otwoma also vacated his seat as the party vice chairman citing the same reasons.
However, those in ODM believe that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee coalition has a hand in the departure of Namwamba from the party.
They have accused the ruling coalition of ‘buying’ the rebel leaders from the party ahead of the 2017 polls in a bid to split the CORD strongholds.
