Do you go to Church regularly? or better still, when did you last attend service at your favorite Church? Some Kenyans have shared unbelievable stories why they cancelled out going to Church.

My dad passed first.. after 6yrs my mum got pregnant, he was condemned publicly by the church.. they humiliated her and she later passed.. I thought church was the last place to seek refuge. @WeruMorris

When religion became a topic that I can’t question in public without getting hate and occasionally “unaoverthink” comments. Humanity must grow…I’m not saying to abandon religion…but to accept that no one knows what happened at the beginning and no one knows how it will end. @ilovet33ts

I hate to say it, but churches today are filled with a bunch of pretenders. Went to one and the preaching was all filled with politics about “the fake Joshua” I hated it. @Frankievexx

I stopped going to church the day the holy man visited my grandma who was a native traditional doctor .He wanted support that his church attendance is optimal..He didn’t know I know him and I am one of his disciples, one of the known churches in 001 ..back in 2014. @a_nyenyo

Because the local church I used to attend overstepped their mandate by judging us before judgement day! Also, people were “eating” each other in crusade or kesha a lot and I escaped the queue. The moral value of attending church died like that. How about you? @AmJuxta

Some people there hated me for no reason, i decided to stop pretending for hating them back. I sat down, relaxed and read the catholic catechism by myself and daily readings. Which were way better. @DesmondMuigai

Nilichujwa after kupata mtoi, so according to the church, ni must you marry a girl from the same church…. Mi nilikua na msupa wa a different church na vile i married her na nikampea mtoi, nikachujwa… Now no one in that church talks to me. @DINS_OG

I was told by my pastor not to engage with non believers. I went home and thought to myself those non believers have helped me grow, taught me how to bring food to the table but all i get from church is pray for God to provide. That was it for me and church. @director_njuki

Church is good,But most of this churches when you report, they’ll preach 9% prosperity,1% deliverance and the word of God and the remaining 90% it will be contributions, harambee, tithe ,development, keesha,it will be money after money. Those monied will be given special front seats. @MMacsinys

I haven’t stopped but I have friends who stopped going to church due to some reasons.

1. There isnt love in churches any longer – God is Love
2. Pastors are manipulating the congregation for their own benefits.
– Good News isn’t found in churches @BentexMusembi_

Church leadership wrangles and commercialization of church, pastor Yuko kazi and he makes sure he gets maximum returns. Better kujiombea kwa nyumba. @Fred_Musalia

When I decolonized my mind, I realized the main purpose of religion was to keep the society with good morals. The church was turned into business. Lastly when I realized the biggest church is in my heart. Decolonize from modern form of slavery! @GabraMercy

I have a relationship with God that does not involve the church. @vincentkiti2

I figured it out the church is a business. Then I understood that I didn’t need anyone to tell me what God was saying because I am my own God and I can clearly hear myself. I figured out that I am God and so is everyone else and everything else. @Toxictwirrerme

This conversation started by @OmwambaKE on Twitter will leave you lost, how people no-longer value this core tradition and how things have changed. The Church is a holy place, where a person should feel at peace, there’s no argument on this.

Where do you go for prayers and spiritual nourishment?
