President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto will today launch Jubilee Party Membership Smart Card at Kasarani Gymnasium.
The Smart Card is aimed at ensuring free and fair nominations. It will ensure only registered voters who are genuine members of the party participate in the nominations later this year.
The card, which will be available at More than 16,000 aspirants seeking election on the party’s ticket are expected to attend the launch at the Kasarani gymnasium in Nairobi.headquarters in Nairobi and branches after today’s launch, will be sold to members at Sh20 each.
The card has a unique bar code that the Jubilee team says will make it impossible for anyone to vote twice during nominations.
Manual registration will also be taking place in case of system failure and there will be a manual back up.
How the card works
Once you buy the card you activate by sending the word ACCEPT to 30553. You will be prompted to give name, ID number, telephone and the card number.
The card is connected to the database of the Registrar of Political Parties and that of the IEBC. This will ensure that you register as a member of one political party.
In case you are a member of another party and try to register through the card system, it will prompt you to respond to questions like ‘Sorry, you are a member of another political party, do you wish to resign and register as a JP member?’.
