Chaos erupted in Ugandan capital of Kampala after the country’s police briefly detained key opposition figure Kizza Besigye.

Besigye has unsuccessfully tried to unseat incumbent President Yoweri Museveni in three successive elections.

The opposition leader has been frustrated one two many times by police who view him as a threat to Museveni’s 30 year rule.

Besigye’s supporters flocked the streets of Kampala upon learning that the Ugandan opposition leader had been arrested.

Police say they arrested Bisigye because he had disobeyed orders not to disrupt traffic in the busy roads of Kampala.

Besigye was released minutes after his arrest and police escorted him to where he was supposed to hold his next rally.
