He is used to dodging tear gas and navigating high-stakes political standoffs, but Larry Madowo’s latest challenge is strictly of the heart.
The CNN African correspondent has revealed that his recent reporting on the 2026 Ugandan general election has earned him more than just front-page headlines—it’s earned him a bold proposal from a “lovestruck” local woman.
Taking to Instagram on Monday, January 19, 2026, Madowo shared a screenshot of a heartfelt private message from an anonymous Ugandan admirer.
The woman, clearly captivated by the journalist’s award-winning coverage, decided to “shoot her shot” with a direct plea for a romantic chance.
“Hello, I am from Uganda… when I started to follow you, I started to like you,” the message read.
“Maybe you can give me one chance to be your girlfriend in Uganda. Thanks, your work is good.”

The proposal follows a grueling month for Madowo, who has been on the ground in Kampala and Gulu covering the 15 January 2026 polls.
Despite facing accusations of bias from pro-government supporters and dodging “the worst tear gas” of his career during opposition rallies, Madowo’s charisma clearly shone through the protective gear for at least one viewer.
The admirer confessed that her “solo journey of love” had been brewing for years, eventually giving her the courage to reach out as the eyes of the world turned to Uganda.
This is far from the first time Madowo has had to play the role of East Africa’s most eligible bachelor. The veteran journalist has a growing collection of “proposal receipts.

Despite the flood of DMs, Madowo has long been the subject of dating rumors involving DW News anchor Edith Kimani.
The pair are frequently seen together in “lovey-dovey” social media posts, most recently stunning netizens with a gym selfie in late 2025.
While the two have dubbed themselves the “king and queen of kucheza chini” (keeping it low-key), the lack of an official confirmation continues to give hope to admirers from Nairobi to Kampala.
