top trap artistes making it big in Kenyan music industry

10 mins read

Trap music is the new thing in hip hop today, whether you agree with it or not, we have artistes like Young Thug, Future, 21 Savage, Lil Pump, the late XXXTentacion even Drake are trapping in their music nowadays and people are loving it as it is commercialized and everybody everywhere are listening to trap record.

That being said, some critics have mentioned that trap is just a phase of the hip hop genre and it’s just a mere facade that will fade in due time, but I say it is a movement that is making people reckon with it whether they know it or not, love it or not, enjoy it or not, but the bottom line is that it has changed the game as we know it.

In the area of it being a facade that will fade away in due time, is something that no one has control over, I guess we will have to wait and see.

Time always seems to have an answer to everything.

In African countries, South Africa has somewhat many trappers than any other African countries ranging from the entire artistes from The Wrecking Crew like Ecco, Flame, A-Reece, B3nchmarq with the entire male artistes from Ambitiouz record label like Emtee, Saudi, Priddy Ugly with Sjava but Sjava’s case is different, somewhat because he sings most of the time than trap.

That being said Kenya has trap artistes of her own having also a movement.

We have Trap Movement of artistes who are trappers and are actually good at it and causing some serious ripples with their trap music and Alliance Domini Family which comprise of Boutross, K Green and Dope-I-Mean are some if not the only trap movement in the country today

These are the top trappers causing ripples in the music industry and making a name for themselves while they are at it.

Boutross

Boutross Munene is one trapper that music enthusiasts would love to know if they don’t know him already.

Boutross is a part of the AD Family(Alliance Domini Family) and a member of Octopizzo’s Tergat Gang so-to-speak.

He has a unique voice that will get your attention if it will be your first time listening to him.

Boutross like many other talented trappers has a lot of records under his name and he sure want to take the movement to the next level and put Kenya on the map using the trap records he usually release very time to time, he is a prolific artiste that will never disappoint his fans when it comes to releasing good, quality music.

Jovie Jovv

Jovie Jovv is the one trapper on this list who has done tremendously well without the help of anybody at all but through his sweat, tears and blood and dedication to his craft.

Jovie Jovv has done a lot in the trap realm in Kenya and he is bound to continue doing just that. Like for instance, his ‘Kiasi’ record made a milestone for having good views on YouTube alone without any social media push, any blog reviews or even Jovie Jovv pushing the record.

Jovie Jovv is bound to make some great moves that will put the trap movement in Kenya as a force to reckon with, just wait, watch and see

K Green

Like Boutross, K Green is a trapper who is in the same musical clique as him[Boutross] called AD Family alongside Dope-I-Mean and he stands out to be a trapper who also knows his bars when it comes to him delivering the verses.

K Green also has a unique voice that makes you get interested when you listen to it. He is one trapper that can make you think you are listening to some teacher.

K Green is one trapper that can you won’t forget when you listen to one of his records or a record that he has been featured on.

Timmy Blanco(TNT)

Timmy Blanco who is one half of TnT is the only trapper and rapper who has worked with Khaligraph Jones on his debut album ‘Testimony 1990’ that he just released and it’s a few weeks old since it was officially dropped by the Kayole rapper.

Well, getting featured on Khaligraph Jones debut album should count for something I reckon and indeed it counts for something because Timmy Blanco is one heck of a trapper in the Kenyan music industry today.

The Kibera born trapper has been causing ripples in the industry together with TweenyEights and with their hit record ‘Christopher Wallace’ they solidified their place as one of the best trappers to ever grace the microphone from Kenya.

If you haven’t already, go and watch/listen to that ‘Christopher Wallace’ record, you will thank me later for it.

Barak Jacuzzi

The reason why Barak Jacuzzi is so unique on this list is he is the only Kenyan and American trapper who left America for the African dream of making it big on his motherland, Kenya.

He is a well-established rapper as well as he is a music reporter, he met up with some serious music heavyweights in the States while he was still there but now since he came back to Kenya, he is causing some heads to bob up and down through his music.

Barak Jacuzzi released a single subbed ‘No Adlibs’ that for some reason he pulled down from YouTube is one trapper that you can give his props when you listen to him spit on that record.  Barak Jacuzzi is simply amazing on every beat he decides to jump on.

Barak Jacuzzi who released his own rendition of Lil Pump’s ‘Gucci Gang’ hit record dubbed ‘Guzzi Gang’ would have you appreciate him as a well-established artiste in the game today.

I see Kenyan music going places with Barak Jacuzzi playing a major role in that milestone.

TwennyEights(TNT)

One half of TnT, TwennyEights is yet another trap artiste the spotlight should be keen to shine on. The trapper brings glitz to the trap music industry with ease.

Just like Timmy Blanco, TweenyEights has some serious bars that would make you scratch your head when you listen to the lyrics.

TweenyEights being young and all have a bright future ahead of him, either as a solo artiste or as a member of the now super glorious hip hop duo, TnT.

Tunji

We got to admit that we all love the flow that Tunji brought to the game with his hit record ‘Mat Za Ronga’ that catapulted him to the mainstream.

Tunji’s way is trap and he has never failed to mention that whenever he needs to on his records.

Listen to his latest mixtape ‘Good Vibes’ that is only a few hours old and understand how Tunji’s touch in the trap music realm is changing the game as we know it.

As I said, listen to the mixtape and find out for yourself how he massacred the beats that Lil Pump, Kendrick Lamar and Rich The Kid jumped on, especially that ‘New Freezer’ joint.

Whether you like it or not, respect it or not, understand it or not, Trap music is taking over and there’s nothing anybody can do to stop it, the force is too big for it to be stopped.

I love everybody who loves everybody, somebody got to love somebody at some point.
Music is something that comes natural to everybody and it's a language that everybody can understand, I understand it and that's why I speak it
fluently, do you.
