Tanzanian musician Khalid Mohamed, widely known as TID (Top in Dar es Salaam), stirred up conversation with his recent remarks about Arbantone artists, setting a record for candidness.
In an interview with Kwambox and Chito, TID clarified that his previous comments about Arbantone were not rooted in dislike but rather in unfamiliarity with the genre.
“I wasn’t well-versed in Arbantone. People informed me about its sampling nature, a trend in the new generation, which is commendable. However, even if you sample beats, you should compensate the original creator,” explained TID.
Expressing openness to collaboration, TID invited suggestions for top Arbantone artists to collaborate with, offering permission for them to use his beats.
“Give me the name of a prominent Arbantone artist so we can collaborate. I’ll grant them permission to use my beats,” he expressed.
Earlier, TID had sternly warned Arbantone artists against using his voice without authorization.
“Don’t test me; if you use my song for your Arbantone without consent, you’re in trouble, and I won’t forgive you,” he asserted firmly.
When questioned about his stance on Amapiano music, initially disliked by him, TID elaborated on his preference for retaining the essence of local music.
“I’m not a fan of Amapiano because it’s overshadowing our unique music style. We shouldn’t neglect our own music in favor of promoting others’. Let’s stick to our roots and cherish our sound,” TID shared with Kwambox and Chito.
In a lighthearted remark, TID joked about the possibility of people walking past his interview, indicating no offense would be taken.
